Our Inspiration

St. Francis of Assisi

Our Lives here at Loreto on the Plains Personal Care Home is all about Life.  That is at the heart of a home, and care for those who live there.  The three virtues of Faith, Hope, and Love are found in the Life and Legacy of St Francis of Assisi.  His first sermons, before he ever began to preach, were experienced by the people he and his followers encountered as they traveled on foot from town to village exhorting people to fear God and to do Penance.  In the Omnibus of Sources which recounts St. Francis' writings and early biographies, this is shared with us as is the response of the people who heard:  "Who are these men and why do they speak like this?" (Chapter 7, paragraph 34) It further clarifies that the people were so curious because the fear and love of God had died out in the country and no one spoke of penance, which indeed was considered folly! Three evil forces had engulfed the society:  temptations of the flesh, the "cupidity" of the world, and the pride of life.

My query;  How do we see mankind today?  Jesus called the society he lived in a "wicked and adulterous generation." (Matthew 16:4)  St. Paul calls it a depraved generation (Philippians 2:12-18)  We can see, then, that what is recorded in the Omnibus 12 centuries later can be an inspriation for later generations, like us, for example!  Are we not in a battle against so many evil forces that our hearts have been turned to stone?   To listen to and follow the Gospel; is that not our challenge?

The Vision that has brought us to our present state, and causes us to call others to join in this life giving endeavor, is based on Living the Word of God, and saying YES to His Will. Homes of Life Across America, Homes like Loreto on the Plains, Caring Homes for those approaching the end of their lives, must spring up from seeds planted by those who have heard the Word of Life, and accepted the chalenge.  There will be a "tidal wave" of senior citizens, each one gifted with much to offer us, in need of care as their bodies and minds give way to the natural progression of age.

Those who read our blog are invited to respond, and see what is offered.  We want to assist you in your desire to offer care to parents, grandparents, and all those in your life that are approaching the later years of life and seeking to find faith, hope, and love in the generous response inspired by St Francis who said yes and never regretted it.  He loved! Do you embrace this love?

Please look over the rest of this website.  We believe there is so much to know and do.  God calls.  We simply say "yes."

Blessed be God, forever, and His Son, Jesus Christ, in the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit.

Amen, and amen!

              In Him,

                     Fr. Ron Mathews, Chaplain
