The Little Church of the Home

The Family Connection

After 10 years of caregiving what Jesus said, "Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me." Matt. 25:40 has impressed upon us the core mission of love  and service which is required in caring for the elderly, sick and terminally ill. This work of mercy is a calling which every baptized christian receives as part of his life's mission. Certainly the heart of every Christian home needs to beat with the heart of Christ and his merciful love. As Jesus demonstrated to his disciples at the last supper when he washed their feet and he said' "As I have done for you so you should also do." John 13:15  He was demonstrating service to others which is the central meaning of love in the family. Loving service given and loving service received - this is the communion in the family. When a family lives with hearts filled with the desire to serve one another that family becomes filled with the fruit of service which is peace. When our children were growing up we always emphasized for them to ask what help is needed when entering new situations.

We at several different times have had others living in our household, such as the time when a young woman needed a place where she could complete her pregnancy, and another time when a sister needed some special care along with her child. These works of mercy were not lost on our growing children as they always were part of our loving family which like the womb of Mary provided a place for Jesus to live. As our children went off to find God's direction for their lives and at times some of them needed help on their journey we always offered loving service however we could. Now years later their homes are homes of Life filled with the love of Jesus first and they are actively serving others. Some have foster children because their home is a home of Life.

Truly the family connection is a Jesus connection as His light and love fill the home. The little church of the home has the husband and wife bound together with his saving grace. Our house, filled with the Holy Spirit and consecrated to Jesus through Mary Provided the seed bed for the vision for Loreto on The Plains Personal Care Home to be birthed and through prayer and faith becam e a reality in 2009.
